Getting Started with Sekiro Modding
Mod Engine 2, Sekiro Online, and the FromSoft offline-only pattern
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice modding mirrors the FromSoft pattern — Mod Engine 2, EAC bypass, offline-only. If you've modded DS3 or Elden Ring, this is identical workflow.
Step 1 — Install Mod Engine 2
Same Mod Engine 2. Configure for Sekiro by editing config_sekiro.toml to point at your install.
Step 2 — Install mods
Nexus Mods Sekiro is the main hub. Popular picks:
- Sekiro Online — community multiplayer mod (PvP and co-op, peer-to-peer, EAC-bypassing).
- Sekiro Combat Overhaul — balance and combat changes.
- Boss Rush Mode — back-to-back boss fights.
Drop mods into Mod Engine 2's mod/sekiro/ folder per each mod's instructions.
Step 3 — Launch via Mod Engine 2
Run launchmod_sekiro.bat. EAC is bypassed; online unavailable until you launch via Steam directly.
Step 4 — Save handling
Sekiro saves are in %AppData%/Sekiro/<steam_id>/. Same caution as other FromSoft games — don't mix modded saves with online play.
Common gotchas
- EAC error on launch. Use Mod Engine 2's launch script.
- Sekiro Online disconnects. All players need the same version.
- Mod not applying. Check Mod Engine 2's config path.
The Souls modding patterns are consistent. If you've worked through one FromSoft game's mods, you've effectively learned all of them. The Elden Ring guide covers the same architecture in more depth.
