Getting Started with Resident Evil 4 (2023) Modding
REFramework, Fluffy Mod Manager, and the Capcom RE Engine pattern
Resident Evil 4 (2023 remake) modding follows the Capcom REFramework pattern shared with MH:World, MH Rise, and other RE Engine games. This guide is the RE4-specific walkthrough.
Step 1 — Install REFramework
Same REFramework as the other Capcom games. Extract into your RE4 install root.
Step 2 — Install Fluffy Mod Manager (optional)
Same tool. Add RE4 (2023) as a game profile.
Step 3 — Install mods
Nexus Mods RE4 (2023) is the main hub. Popular picks:
- Costume / outfit replacements.
- Weapon balance mods.
- Difficulty adjustment.
REFramework Lua mods go into REFramework/autorun/. Asset mods use Fluffy or direct install.
Step 4 — Launch
RE4 loads normally with REFramework active.
Step 5 — Mercenaries mode
The Mercenaries online mode has its own considerations. Story mode modding is safe; for The Mercenaries, check the mod's compatibility note.
Common gotchas
- REFramework breaks after patch. Wait for update.
- 2023 remake vs original. Different games. Don't confuse mods for the 2005 original with the remake.
If you've modded any other Capcom RE Engine game, this is the same workflow.
